So the summer solstice is the longest day of the year, and the Swedes make midsommar their biggest holiday. In addition to lots of dancing around maypoles and drinking of snaps while signing silly songs about frogs, floral wreaths are made to honor the blooming of the season.
Last year we were in Sweden and my in-laws taught me how to make homemade floral wreaths from flowers plucked from their garden. It is super easy and beyond pretty. I mean, who doesn’t love to wear fresh flowers in their hair?
To make you’ll need:
Start by making a circle with floral wire by looping wire around 3 or 4 times, Try it on and make sure its fits your head. Cut flowers into 3 inch stems and gather little bunches with floral wire. Start adhering with floral tape onto the wire crown in direction you want. Put on head and start dancing around a maypole!
